Exceptional Children

The Exceptional Children's program at Glenwood provides individualized educational services to children with disabilities in all grades. The focus of the program is to provide individually case managed services to students who are the following:
1.) identified as having a disability and
2.) experiencing academic challenges as a result of their disability.
Glenwood is an “inclusion” model school where, if it is appropriate for a child, teachers serve children with disabilities in the general education classroom with the assistance of an EC teacher. Children with disabilities participate fully in the general education curriculum and are expected to learn objectives specified in the North Carolina Common Core State Standards. If a student with disabilities requires more targeted academic services in order to succeed in the curriculum, then a range of more intensive, pull-out resource options are available. The EC resource team operates in full collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and administrative personnel to offer individualized and successful academic experiences to all students with disabilities.
