At Glenwood we have two ESL teachers Anna Ouchchy and Laura Holmes. We would like to introduce ourselves and give you some information about the ESL program. We are resource teachers who help your child with his/her English and can also help you. We have office hours from 7:30 until 8:00 each morning in room 103D (Ms. Anna's office). If you need assistance filling out papers, communicating to your child's classroom teacher or the rest of the staff at Glenwood, we would be happy to help you at that time. Or please feel free to call us and make an appointment for after school hours: 968-3473 ext. 38244 - Ms. Anna, ext. 38259 - Ms. Holmes.
Glenwood Elementary has a range of services for learners of English as a Second Language (ESL). For beginning students, separate or 'pull-out' classes are offered which focus on the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. For more advanced students, we offer inclusion services in which the ESL teachers work with students in their classrooms.
If we recommend that your child take an ESL class, we will send home a paper asking for your permission. We will watch your child's progress in English during the year. When he/she has no problem understanding the classroom teacher or learning in class, we will send you a letter to let you know that your child will be monitored. During this time period, we will keep track of your child's progress and make sure that no additional language help is needed. If no problems arise, we will recommend that your child exit the program. At that time, we will need your permission in order to exit your child from the ESL program.
Welcome again, and we're glad you're Gators!!
